Plumbing Perils?
Thanks to Michele Ralston for spotting and bringing to our attention a notice about the Spencer National Class Action Settlement. There is a
web site at http://www.spencerclass.com that has details about the class action lawsuit.
An excerpt from that site reads The Spencer Class Action covers homes that were plumbed inside using polybutylene plumbing systems with polybutylene pipe
connected with acetal plastic insert fittings. The polybutylene pipe is usually grey or black plastic. The acetal insert fittings are usually grey and
occasionally white plastic. Sounds just like the stuff in my house!
The web site has pictures that are even more indicative. The Class Action Notice alleges
that the polybutylene plumbing systems in homes owned by the
named plaintiffs and the class members of are defective and have resulted and/or may result in leaks, flooding and damages to homes and their contents
the
defendant companies were negligent in putting the polybutylene plumbing systems on the market, ... The Complaint sought money damages and such other relief as
may be appropriate such as copper replumbs and reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses for all affected homes and homeowners.
